Oversees: Campers within the specialty
Pre-camp training is Wednesday 5/29, Thursday 5/30, and Friday 5/31

Week 5: July 8th - July 12th

8:00 - 5:00 PM
Please note: Specialists will be allowed to keep their devices/phones with them for appropriate use as it pertains to their specialty or to play music for campers. (Counselors and J/CITs will not have their phones with them during camp.) All staff will be given radios for communication/safety. Specialists having their phones is a privilege that can be taken away with any personal use.
This specialist will lead activities in Adventure/Nature and/or Woodworking and/or Leather-working. The expectation is that this Specialist will teach the hard skills and associated soft skills of these camp activities and provide an experience that is fun, safe and challenging.
This person will also help support general camp activities when not in charge of a group for Adventure/Nature and/or Woodworking and/or Leather-working.
Essential Job Functions
Deliver fun and meaningful Adventure/Nature and/or Woodworking and/or Leather-working programs to campers.
Ensure plans are prepared and implemented that meet the abilities of the campers.
Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety procedures during Adventure/Nature and/or Woodworking and/or Leather-working.
Oversee daily checks for Adventure/Nature and/or Woodworking and/or Leather-working areas and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
Oversee counselors and J/CITs as available to assist with Adventure/Nature and/or Woodworking and/or Leather-working.
Manage time so that the Adventure/Nature and/or Woodworking and/or Leather-working program contributes to ensuring that the daily schedule is maintained.
Other Job Duties:
Attend staff meetings.
Participate enthusiastically in other camp activities, providing support and guidance to those assigned as leaders.
Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
Must be 21 or older.
Experience in the development and delivery of Adventure/Nature for similar population (ideally at a school, camp or recreation center).
Current instructional certification in program or related experience.
Current certification in first aid and CPR.
Physical Aspects of the Position:
Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
Ability to observe staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate management techniques.
Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
Ability to address stressful situations appropriately in a fast-paced interactive environment.
Some physical requirements of a this position are eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate program equipment and program activities. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs. Additional requirements are endurance including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, walking, jogging or running, hiking, climbing, and stretching; requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and camp activities; requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs; willing to work irregular hours; and with daily exposure to the sun, heat, and bugs.
